Cribbage

Count your fifteens, guard your crib, peg your way home.

About Cribbage

The 400-year-old pub game with maths in its bones, played head-to-head against a sharp AI. Throw two cards to the crib — sweet when it is yours, bitter when it is not — then peg through the play, scoring fifteens, pairs and runs on the fly with 31 as the hard ceiling. Then the show, where a well-built hand counts up in front of you like poured change. His heels, his nobs, muggins spirit optional. First round the board wins.

How to Play

Discard two cards to the crib — it scores for whoever dealt. During play, tap cards in turn: 15s, pairs and runs score; the count caps at 31. Hands count after: fifteens, pairs, runs and flushes. First to 121 pegs out.

💡 Tips & Strategy

Never throw a five to the opponent's crib — fives pair with every ten-card in the deck. To your OWN crib, fives, pairs and close cards are gold; to theirs, throw wide gaps like K-9.

In the pegging, open with a card below five (they can't make 15 on you), keep pairs of low cards for 31 traps, and remember every card they play tells you what they kept.

When counting the throw, keep the hand that scores now over the hand that might improve — a guaranteed 8 beats a speculative 12. And near the end, position matters: pegging first around the final corner wins games that the cards themselves would lose.
