Beleaguered Castle

Aces in the middle, eight rows round the walls. Storm the castle card by card.

About Beleaguered Castle

A pure-skill solitaire with nothing hidden — every card is on the table from the first deal. The four Aces start on the foundations and the other 48 cards fan out in eight rows of six around them. Only the outer card of a row can move, one at a time; rows build down in any suit, foundations build up by suit to King, and any card can drop into an empty row, which makes every cleared row precious. Undo is unlimited, the 💡 hint warns you when no win is left, and ▶ Finish sweeps up once every row is in order. Plenty of random deals can’t be won, so pick Winnable for deals proven solvable. 10 points per card homed, 500 for a win, plus a speed bonus under 300 moves.

How to Play

Only the outer card of each row can move — one card at a time. Rows build down in any suit (a 7 goes on any 8). Foundations build up by suit from Ace to King. Any card can go into an empty row. Undo is unlimited and 💡 suggests a move. Choose Random or Winnable deals.

💡 Tips & Strategy

Empty rows are the whole game. Any card can go into one, so a cleared row lets you dig out a buried card or reverse a short sequence. Find the row with the fewest cards sitting on something useful — especially the low cards the foundations need next — and clear it first.

Rows take any suit, which feels generous, but every card you stack buries what's underneath. Prefer moves that free a card for the foundations or empty a row, and don't drop a lone card into an empty row unless it unlocks something straight away.

You can see every card, so plan a few moves ahead and lean on undo — it's unlimited. If 💡 warns that no win is left, back up instead of grinding on, or switch to Winnable deals for a fair fight every time. Once every row is in descending order, ▶ Finish plays out the rest, and fewer moves means a bigger speed bonus.
