Masyu

White pearls, black pearls, one loop that obeys them all.

About Masyu

The most elegant of the Japanese loop puzzles — no numbers at all, just pearls with opinions. Thread a single closed loop through every pearl on the grid. White pearls demand the loop pass straight through but turn immediately on one side or the other; black pearls force a hard turn on the spot with straight runs leaving both ways. Two rules, endless consequences, and boards that solve like little chains of dominoes once you find the first forced move.

How to Play

Drag between dots to draw the loop; tap an edge to mark ✕ where it can’t go. White ○: straight through here, but turn in the very next cell on at least one side. Black ●: turn here, then run straight for two cells both ways. One closed loop, every pearl used.

💡 Tips & Strategy

Black pearls near an edge are gifts: the loop must turn on them and run two straight cells both ways, so a black pearl one cell from a wall has a forced arm pointing inward. Corners and edges first, always.

A line of white pearls along a wall forces the loop straight through all of them — and the turn-next-door rule then pins the exits. Chains of white pearls in open space limit each other; three in a row is usually a straight run with hard turns at both ends.

Draw the forced fragments everywhere before connecting anything. The endgame is joining fragments without creating a second loop — if a connection closes a loop early, cross that edge and the remaining route often becomes obvious.
