🌉 Bridges
🧩 Puzzle · 13 playsBridges
Wire the islands into one network — every count exact, no crossings.
About Bridges
Hashiwokakero — "build bridges" — and that is the whole job. Every island wears the number of bridges that must touch it; connect them with straight bridges, single or double, that never cross each other. The final network has to hang together as one piece, which is the rule that catches everyone: a corner pair can satisfy their numbers perfectly and still be marooned. The 8s and the corners hand you your opening moves. From there, it’s engineering.
How to Play
Tap the gap between two islands to cycle: one bridge → two → none. Each island’s number = exactly how many bridges touch it. Max two per pair. Bridges run straight and never cross. Every island must join ONE connected network.
💡 Tips & Strategy
Start where the number equals the possible: an 8 takes double bridges all four ways, a corner 4 doubles both its only directions, an edge 6 fills all three. These are free, and they reshape the board.
A 1 in a corner connects one way — but which way is often forced by its neighbours' needs. Work the low numbers for direction and the high numbers for volume.
Keep one eye on connectivity: never complete a small cluster's counts if it would seal that cluster off from the rest. If a bridge would strand a satisfied island group, the bridge belongs elsewhere — that deduction solves most hard boards.
