Checkers

Classic draughts against a computer opponent with three skill levels.

About Checkers

The timeless board game, played against a thoughtful computer opponent. Standard American rules: pieces move diagonally, captures are mandatory, multi-jumps chain together, and a piece reaching the far side is crowned a king that moves both ways. Start on Easy to learn the rhythm, then test yourself against Hard, which plans several moves ahead.

How to Play

Tap one of your red pieces to see its legal moves, then tap a highlighted square. If a capture is available you must take it — red dots mark capturing moves. Reach the far row to crown a king. Capture every enemy piece, or leave them with no moves, to win.

💡 Tips & Strategy

Control the centre. Pieces in the middle squares have more moves and cannot be trapped against the edge, while edge pieces are safe from capture but easy to immobilise.

Because captures are compulsory, you can force your opponent's moves. Offering one piece to pull a defender out of position — then taking two on the return jump — is the fundamental checkers trick, and the computer on Hard will try it on you.

Keep your back row intact as long as you can. Empty back-row squares are where enemy pieces get crowned, and a king behind your lines is devastating.

Trade pieces when you are ahead and avoid trades when you are behind; a two-piece lead in a four-versus-two endgame is a win, the same lead at twelve-versus-ten is nothing yet.
