Word Wheel

Nine letters, one compulsory middle. How many words can you spin out?

About Word Wheel

Nine letters arranged in a wheel with one sitting in the middle. Make as many words of three letters or more as you can, using each letter at most once and always including that centre letter. Somewhere in the nine there is a single word that uses every last one of them — find that and the round is yours. The newspaper puzzle, without the newspaper.

How to Play

Tap letters to build a word of three letters or more, then submit it. Every word must use the centre letter, and each wheel letter only once. Longer words score more. There's one nine-letter word hiding in every wheel.

💡 Tips & Strategy

Go hunting for the nine-letter word first — it uses every letter, so it is the one find that guarantees a full round, and spotting it usually shakes loose a dozen shorter words on the way. Count the vowels, look for a familiar ending among the letters (-ING, -ERS, -TION, -MENT, -ABLE) and a beginning (RE-, UN-, DIS-, OVER-), then see what the middle could be.

Work outward from the centre letter, since every word needs it. Pair it with each outer letter both ways round — CA and AC, CO and OC — and you will surface stems your eye slid straight over.

Each letter can be used only once, so there are no doubles unless the wheel actually contains two of that letter. That rule quietly kills a lot of confident answers, so check for repeated letters before you type anything with LL, SS or EE in it.

When you dry up, sweep the three-letter words methodically — they are easy points and they often turn out to be the core of something longer. And if there is an S in the wheel, run back through everything you have already found and try pluralising it.
