Every letter is a number. Crack one, and the grid starts to sing.
About Codeword
A crossword with the clues stripped out and a cipher bolted on. Every number from 1 to 26 stands for one letter of the alphabet, used somewhere in the grid — a few are given to get you started, and the other twenty-something are yours to deduce. Fill one in and it lands everywhere at once, sometimes finishing three words, sometimes wrecking a theory you were fond of. Pattern-spotting, vocabulary and pure stubbornness, in that order.
How to Play
Tap a number in the grid, then tap a letter to assign it — it fills in everywhere. Every letter A–Z is used by exactly one number. Use short words and doubles to break in. Three hints if the grid stops talking.
💡 Tips & Strategy
Break in through the pattern words: a three-letter word appearing twice, a doubled letter before the end (-LL, -SS, -EE), an apostrophe pattern, or a one-number word that must be A or I. One confirmed vowel cascades through the whole grid.
Count the frequencies — the number appearing most across the grid is almost always E, then a spread of A, S, R, T. Test the guess against every word it touches before committing.
Every filled letter is also an elimination: 26 numbers, 26 letters, no repeats. Late game, run the unused letters against the stubborn words — the last few (J, Q, X, Z) practically place themselves.
